This case centers around monitoring and analyzing a plant’s power consumption pattern based on data collected via monitoring devices at the factory’s central power distribution system

Introduction

01For power safety, current and historical data such as short circuit, power blackout, and power
overload are tracked

02Such power quality factors as power imbalance, power factor, voltage sag and swell, power
harmonic distortion are monitored as well as power usage factors such as power voltage,
reactive power, electric current and frequency

03The service aims at lowering the overall energy costs while enhancing the power quality and the
consistency of power consumption as it will help predict future power consumption/peak
level per production line, prevent crossing peak level and minimize energy wastes

Solution Overview

01Placement of power monitoring devices at the factory’s central power distribution
system/power board

02Provide a dashboard that would enable plant managers to have a complete full
snapshot of critical power-related data for all production lines

System architecture

The below images show the hardware and software used to create the full end-to-end
solution. The core UI and UX modules of the Thing+ web application were used in this
specific case. Hardware from Dell and NTek were used for reliable monitoring of power
consumption

Production Line Power Usage Monitoring Dashboard

Current and historical data on the power usage per production line/ time and peak level
and other power-related data (e.g. power factor, electric current, reactive power, electric
frequency) are shown as they are tracked, compared and analyzed in graphs and charts
